Hello! I'm Jo, and here is where it all started for me:
During my studies for
a
Bachelor's Degree in Dramatic Arts at the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa, my passion for the fusion of dramatic arts, hair, and makeup ignited. It was during my time as the lead hair and makeup designer for the university's Graduate Students Feature Film Production that I found my calling. From that moment, my fascination with all things hair and makeup only intensified.
Driven by a thirst for knowledge, I embarked on further studies, immersing myself in the world of hair and makeup. I obtained qualifications in various makeup specialities, including bridal, film and television, editorial and SFX. Additionally, I pursued my trade qualification in hairdressing and lash artistry. Over the past 25 years, I've remained committed to professional development, ensuring I stay ahead in the ever-evolving beauty industry.
Throughout my career, I've been blessed to work with a diverse clientele, ranging from government officials to international celebrity singers and beauty queens. One of the most fulfilling aspects of my journey has been serving as the head of hair and makeup for the iconic "Rocky Horror Picture Show" production at the Johannesburg Civic Theatre.
As a bridal hair and makeup artist, I take immense joy in crafting exquisite looks that make brides feel radiant on their special day. Whether it's achieving a timeless, classic aesthetic or embracing a bold, contemporary style, I'm dedicated to bringing each bride's vision to life with precision and flair.
In addition to my work with brides, I specialize in hair integration and hair extensions, providing clients with innovative solutions to enhance their natural beauty. This includes offering personalized consultations and utilizing high-quality products to achieve stunning results.
I've also had the privilege of contributing to the entertainment and theatrical industries, corporate productions, fashion, and editorial shoots. Teaching hair and media makeup at respected establishments such as Back Stage Makeup Academy in South Africa, The London School of Beauty, and Amersham College in Buckinghamshire has also been a fulfilling period of my journey.
I offer personalized one-on-one and group courses on the technical skills of hair styling, helping aspiring artists develop their craft and excel in the industry."
One of my core values is to provide a safe and judgment-free space for individuals facing physical differences or undergoing transitions. Through the transformative power of corrective camouflage hair and makeup artistry, I endeavour to empower and uplift others, helping them embrace their unique beauty with confidence and grace.
